At one point or another you are going to have to go on an interview. And you may be thinking, "What the heck am I going to wear!?" No worries, I can relate. I recently went on an interview and thought the same thing {and wore the above outfit}. So I wanted to share some tips that apply to finding the perfect interview outfit. Because we all know that the first impression is everything.
1) Where something that fits your personality. If you never wear black, don't wear a black suit. There is no rule that says you have to {unless that is appropriate for your occupation}. Through this outfit, I wanted to show a fun side with my neon tee and cheetah design on my skirt, instead of a conservative blouse and black skirt.
2) Your outfit should be as formal as the job you are interviewing for. If you are applying for a retail position, dress the brand. Or if you are applying for a corporate position, a more formal skirt or dress will be more appropriate. What you wear needs to fit the position you hope to achieve.
3) Don't be afraid of taking a risk. I have heard people say, "You have to wear a suit." Well, no that's not necessarily the case. As you can see I wore a neon t-shirt that could easily be considered casual. However, by pairing it with a formal skirt, jewelry and shoes I was able to dress the tee up and make the look modern.
4) Look expensive for less. Don't have have a huge budget for the perfect outfit? Well that is fine. There are plenty of ways to look like a million dollars, for less. First off, see what your closet {mom's, sister's or friend's} has to offer-- any pieces that could work? If so take advantage and reuse what you already have {or they may have}. If not, it's time to get thrifty. Thrift stores are first and get ready to look. Make sure when you are thrifting to look outside the box especially with size and even style. You don't know how many items I have purchased pieces that aren't my original size or I thought was ugly {like my maxi from this post}. Next stop by outlet stores or fast fashion {Zara, H&M, Forever 21, Target}. Last, check out the sale racks of Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, J Crew. At thrift stores you are bound to find things for amazing prices, the others not necessarily. So remember to have a goal or budget when going shopping and stick to it. And challenge yourself! Every time I shop, it is like a game to see what great deal I can snag.
Okay, you are officially ready to look amazing on your interview. Hope everyone is having a great week! xo
